As seasons change, so does our beauty routine and with the temperatures rising we are in full-on summer mode. Whether you’re looking to shake up your look or figure out the fastest way to make yourself beach ready, we have the tips and tricks to put your best face forward this summer.
It really wouldn’t be summer without healthy, natural looking skin and we saw exactly that all over the runways for Spring/Summer 2015. We spoke with MAC Senior Artist, Jane McKay, in our Spring/Summer 2015 Gorgeous magazine about how to achieve that coveted no-makeup makeup look and “without questions, light reflective skin is IN”! Creating that youthful, vibrant look begins with a base, like MAC’s Strobe Cream, which is an all-time classic, skin illuminating moisturizer to prep your skin with.
Keep your foundation and concealer to a minimum and enhance the natural looking glow with a light sweep and dusting of MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish to highlight the eyelid, brow bone, cheekbone and upper lip.
Get Cheeky With It
Shimmering, sun-kissed skin is always on the summer beauty list. Colour cosmetics are so out this season and we’re seeing a general gravitation to let your skin peek through the products! Instead of a contoured bronzer look go athletic with a more naturally suntanned look; just use a cream based product, like the Lise Watier Illuminating Face Gel, and gently tap it onto your cheeks and blend outward. For ladies with oilier skin, Guerlain’s Terracotta Bronzing Powder is light, translucent and luminous, allowing for the same effect as a gel-based bronzer.
Same goes for blushes, it’s all about enhancing rather than emblazoning, a hint of a tint is all your cheeks need. We love the rosy glow of Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush for a fade-free flawless finish. Bonus: it also minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep product in place. For those on the go, we use this double-duty YSL Kiss and Blush colour that works on your cheeks and lips. Shine on, ladies.
Summer means everything is a little bit more colourful, a little more lively and that’s no exception for your beauty routine too. MAC Senior Artist, Jane McKay, agreed that there were a lot of bold colours and liners on the runway which can be recreated in two ways, as a full on eyelid shadow or a thin liner drawn along the upper eyelid.
Go bold with this beautiful Peacock Gel Eye Liner from Caryl Baker for an eye-popping and vibrant look using MAC’s Small Angled Brush to line your lids. If bold isn’t your thing (and that’s just fine!) try Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner around your eyes for more of an ethereal look. Finish up your look with Caryl Baker’s Xtreme Lashes Volume Mascara for extra plump lashes. You’re ready to bat those babies anywhere!
With splashes of colour seen on eyes and lips this year, it’s hard to choose between what you want to play up, but you do have to pick one or the other (or don’t, we see you Iris Apfel). Pucker up with berry and red tinged hues because the classic lip is far from dated.
With lipstick hybrids hitting counters everywhere, we are onboard for the juicy shine with a not-so-sticky texture in intense colour pigments similar to those of a lipstick. Our favourites include the hydrating C Stick Lip Tint in Pomegranate from Caryl Baker Visage and Sephora’s Blackberry Sorbet Cream Lip Stain which provides beautiful, long-lasting colour.
If there’s one thing and that can make or break your face, it’s our two furry friends up top. You would think just by not doing your eyebrows you would have that unkempt, carefree thing going on but this trend requires some serious dedication. Especially if you’re running a little thin.
While you’re growing out your brows, shade them in using Too Faced’s Brow Envy Brow Shaping & Defining Kit. Have the shape but not enough hair? Benefit’s Gimme Brow is a brow-volumizing fiber gel that builds easily for thick, lush arches. Behold, #BrowEnvy.
